London remains of the leading destinations in the world for tourists. Each year an untold number of tourists flock to the city to see the famous landmarks for which London is so well known. Today the city is the home to a wide variety of well known tourist attractions, both historical and modern. Although many of the main attractions of London are located in Central London, there are actually numerous others which can be found outside the city center as well, contributing to the overall growth of London tourism. Regardless of where you plan to visit in London you will find a myriad of attractions to make your visit worthwhile.

Inside the City of London tourists will find St. Paul’s Cathedral along with the tower of London and the Tower Bridge. The Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey bring a flock of visitors to the City of Westminster in the west each year. This area is also home to a large majority of the top museums and galleries in London as well including the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square, the British Museum, the London Zoo, the Tate Britain, and Madame Tussaud’s.

Of course royal attractions are always very popular throughout the city including such locations as the Horse Guards as well as Downing Street, home to the Prime Minister. Further to the west, visitors will find the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, where the museum district of South Kensington houses the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum as well as Kensington Palace. As this is a highly trafficked tourist area, there are also numerous hotels located in this area.

The South Bank and the Bankside areas have been renovated in recent years, directly across the river from Westminster and the City. Here, visitors see the London Eye, the Globe Theater, the Tate Modern and the London Aquarium.

There is also plenty to see and do outside the city centre as well. Camden Town is home to a popular market while Greenwich in South London is also a popular destination for tourists. Attractions in Greenwich include the Royal Observatory, Cutty Sark and the National Maritime Museum On the other side of the city, in West London, tourists will find Kew Gardens; a site which should not be missed.

London tourism has continued to grow and abound as visitors from around the world flock to the city to soak up the rich and varied history that blends with modern conveniences and attractions. With literally hundreds of museums, art galleries and numerous other attractions including theater and nightlife as well as museum, it is little wonder that London remains one of the most popular cities in the world.
